Preschool Graduation

This was a bitter-sweet day for us all. We were so proud of Zach for graduating from his preschool for 3 year olds but both Zach and I were sad that he won't have somewhere to go every Monday and Wednesday for 2 1/2 hours.

The kids couldn't wait to give Mrs. Leigh her gifts so the big day started with opening gifts and running around. All the kids could feel the excitement in the air yet I don't think one of them understood why. Julianne was running around and "chatting" with Zach's classmates, acting like she was as big as they were.

 

Next we went downstairs to the Busy Bee Preschool and the kids showed us some of the things they do each day.  They started off by saying the pledge- Mrs. Leigh puts lotion on their right hands so they know what hand to put over their hearts (that is why they are rubbing their hands together in the top picture). Then they each get a letter or two of the alphabet and throw it into a bowl and have alphabet soup (Zach mixing something in the bottom picture). Then they sang a busy bee song which was so cute and afterwards they started tickling each other with their bees. Once again Julianne was right up at the front, acting like she was part of the class until she started melting down and throwing things. We almost had to take her out because she was being such a distraction to everyone. In the top right corner there is a picture of Zach that is quintessential Zach- so serious and so obedient.

 

Before the grand finale Mrs. Leigh did a "who am I" game where she asked parents to guess who they thought said each saying. Here were Zach's: 1) Almost in tears Mrs. Leigh read, "But that's ok" (Zach says this anytime he messes something up and she said that he would say this if someone knocked over whatever he was building). What a sweet, tender boy. 2) " 'Missa Leigh' will you read this book to me." 3) Who wants to be a truck driver? to which Dave humorously added, "reach for the starts buddy!"

 After receiving their graduation hats Mrs. Leigh gave each child a scrapbook filled with pictures that correspond to each letter of the alphabet along with a few art projects and question sheets that were done at the beginning and end of the year. It was such a cute and thoughtful gift! 

 

Graduation day ended with a candy-filled pinata that Mrs. Leigh and the "kids" made even though Mrs. Leigh said that Zach was the only one that wanted to keep helping after the other kids got bored after putting one strip of paper on. In typical Zach form, he just sat there calmly and quietly when Mrs. Leigh started calling out kids to come have a second turn to hit the pinata, even though he hadn't gone yet.  He got his turn and the kids were excited to have candy. What a great day!
